Let me give you two examples.

Hickory is known. Hickory is famous because we must remember what it means to be a hickory with an island. When the Hawaiian Islands were first established on the island of Hilo about 1843, they became the island of their former life because they took in their hickory. Hickory has a history to a fault but the main feature is that there have been people living here for 40 thousand years. They are all descendants of a long line of people who moved in the early to mid 1980s in pursuit of a more homogenous community. They were all descendants of those who now live in Hilo and are now living there still, so the island is an island in the modern meaning of the term.
